Hancock - Will Smith

Every bodies favorite drunk wears two sunglasses in this unique take on superhero movies.

The first is the black Christian Dior Mist 1. This pair of sunglasses is also on the cover of the DVD. In the movies the lenses have a mirror coating.

The second pair surprised me because they are fit-over sunglasses. In my experience they are only sold to the elderly who don’t want prescription sunglasses. Or on a rare occasion, pilots and sailors.
They are functional however, because they close off a lot of sunlight from above and beside the frame.

Anyway, Hancock proudly wears his pair of Fitovers Navigators. And I have to admit, they do look good on him.

Blues Brothers - Dan Aykroyd & John Belushi

Epic movie, epic sunglasses.
Jake and Elwood wear Ray Ban Wayfarers (5022) in this musical adventure.

The Wayfarer was released in 1956 by Bausch & Loumb. It got out of fashion in the 70’s and the Blues Brothers brought it right back where it belongs. In the spotlight.

It went out of fashion again in the 90’s and Ray Ban (now Luxottica) redesigned it in 2001 with the RB2132, calling it the ‘New Wayfarer’. The new design made the sunglasses more wearable. It’s smaller, less wide and they decreased the inclination.
Now it’s 2012 and they are still hot.

Breakfast at Tiffanys - Audrey Hepburn

I get this asked several times a year: “Do you sell the Ray Ban Audrey Hepburn wears in Breakfast at Tiffanys”
The answer will always be no. She isn’t wearing a Ray Ban. Sure, they look like one at a glance, but the original wayfarer is very different from the one she is wearing.
So what does she wear?

She is actually wearing a pair of Oliver Goldsmith Manhattan sunglasses. Originally from 1960 and discontinued. Oliver Goldsmith rereleased the sunglasses in 2011 at Breakfast at Tiffany’s 50th anniversary.

Follow http://www.oakley.com/community/posts/1808 to the newspage from Oakley announcing the sunglasses to be in the movie.

The sunglasses have the typical Oakley look, though the ornament on the temples in the movie version of the seem slightly different.

First post

This blog is dedicated to (sun)glasses worn in movies.

I was once told that I’m seemingly random have been shouting brand names when watching movies so I decided to dedicate a blog to this disorder. As an optician I recognize a lot of them and I look up the interesting ones.

Every now and then I’m asked by a customer “I saw this movie and I want those awesome sunglasses, do you know which they are?” So this blog will also double as a reference for me, to be able to show some pictures.

So that’s it for the intro, enjoy the blog! ^_^
